* John McLean (circa 1770-1815) was a maker of the finest Empire and Louis XVI inspired furniture during the later Georgian period, based in London. The great cabinet-maker Thomas Sheraton described his workmanship as finished "in the neatest manner".
His trade card described him as a "specialist in Elegant Parisian Furniture." He had a shop in Lower Newport Street, Leicester Square from 1770-1783 and later moved to 55/58 Upper Marylebone Street (now New Cavendish Street). Client's included the 5th Earl of Jersey.
After John’s death the business was run by his son William, until his death in 1825.

These delicately embellished shelves certainly evoke McLean's elegant style.
