Two-day marine chronometer by Arnold & Dent, London. No. 1091

A small exhibition quality two-day marine chronometer by this eminent partnership. The 3-tier case is veneered all over with oyster olivewood, framed by brass banding, together with brass reinforcements to the inner corners.

The movement is contained within a gimbal-mounted brass bowl, with pivoted dust shutter to the base. The silvered and engraved dial is fully signed “Arnold & Dent, 84 Strand, London, no.1091” with up-and-down and seconds rings. The spring-detent movement has spotted plates and fully compensated balance wheel, together with every technical refinement of the period.

Arnold & Dent are recorded working at 84 Strand, London between 1830 and 1840. Chronometers no.1042 dates to 1839 and no.1207 to 1840.
