Antique marble and ormolu mantel clock by Benjamin Vulliamy, London

England

A fine and rare George III period white marble and ormolu mantel clock by Benjamin Vulliamy, London, who was clock maker to King George III. This very fine example is in the cool neoclassical taste. The white enamel dial with gilt numerals and original gilt pierced hands, has an eight day single fusee movement with dead beat escapement, rise and fall regulation and a signed back-plate numbering 281.

The drum sits and a squared marble base with gilded bead work and is mounted on a further rounded rectangular base with a fluted panel. Either side of the drum are a pair of biscuit putti, probably made by the Derby porcelain factory. The clock is topped with a brass trophy finial.
